64-66 bumper guard attachment

I found a pair of OK bumper guards but not sure how they attach correctly.
It looks like a pair of captive nuts would fit on the inside but I got no hardware with them. How do they attach and where do I find the hardware?
Thanks for the help.

Re: 64-66 bumper guard attachment

There are two different factory installation sheets for the bumper guards. One shows them mounted over the factory bumper bolts, and the other shows them exactly 3” outboard of the bumper bolts. When mounting outboard new holes obviously need to be drilled and new bolts are installed from the rear. The guards have permanent nuts to thread into.

If bolting on where the factory bumper bolts go, those bolts are discarded and replaced with conventional bolts again threaded in from the back.

Post #224 on the following thread shows both factory templates:

The only difference in the 63-66 bumper guards is in the vertical spacing of the bolt holes, since the later frames are taller.

Re: 64-66 bumper guard attachment

Thanks, Mark. I'll have to play around with the two locations and see which one looks better in front of a Chevy grill. I would prefer the outboard mounting location just because I like the idea of bolting the bumper firmly to the frame horns with some authority. The bolt thru method into the bumper guards doesn't seem like as stout a mounting.

Any idea where I could find the cage nuts that go in the square holes in the back side of the guards?

Dean

Re: 64-66 bumper guard attachment

I couldn't find any 1/2-13 cage nuts anywhere in my area but did find some on EBAY. Not sure if they will fit untill I get them though.
