Re: 86 4x4 transfer case ??

It matters which seal is leaking like 86c20 said, do yourself a favor go get a couple cans of break cleaner or a degreaser and pin point exactly where it is coming out at. If it is from the driveshafts you don't even need to drop the transfer case.. And the transfer case is heavy as hell don't pull it out unless it is really neccessary
bigblue87 I don't know what metal guard your talking about? Like the crossmember it sits on, or the mount in between it and where your transmission connect? if it is coming from the crossmember it might be the front driveshaft which isnt that bad, if it is coming from the rear of the transmission then your in for some difficulty.. Just try and find out a location of where it is coming from. I doubt it is cracked honestly. you probably have a NP205, or 208 which both are tough casings.

I had a front driveshaft seal leak, but it was because the t-case input seal for the transmission spline had failed, letting the tranny fluid make its way into the t-case. It then forced its way out of the front drive shaft seal. So if your going through trans fluid then your pulling the t-case.
