Beefing up rear shock mounts?
I tried a search, but I guess I overwhelmed the system
Anyway, is there a bolt-on bracket that can strengthen the upper rear shock mount on a leaf spring truck? Right now it's just a stud mounted to the frame. I already bent the mounts out of shape once (PO had too long of a shock on it). I have brackets to stiffen up the front mounts (support both sides of the stud), but haven't seen anything similar for the rear. Thanks |

Re: Beefing up rear shock mounts?
there are a couple companies on here that sell shock relocation mounts that might do what you are looking for. I know ECE and no limit sell some, maybe they'll chime in. I'm actually looking at both upper and lower mounts for my coil spring setup since I just realized yesterday how loose the bottom mount is...

Re: Beefing up rear shock mounts?
I'm not aware of anything that is a bolt on. What I have in mind would require some fabricating.

Re: Beefing up rear shock mounts?
Captinfab,
I was hoping you or another vender/fabricator would chime in. I don't weld, or fabricate for that matter. I can tear stuff apart, but when it comes to fixin' stuff about all I can do is drill holes and wrench stuff. If there was a pre-made/fabricated part, I could get my neighbor to do some welding for me. Do you have something in mind? Maybe the neighbor could do some cutting and forming as well? Thanks |

Re: Beefing up rear shock mounts?
Well, basically remove the original shock mounts from inside the frame. Then make a bracket to fit in it's place that is flat on the inside (towards the center). Then weld in a 1.75" OD round tube from side to side. Then position a couple of premade shock brackets such as these, on the tube.
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...BRKT-CURT.html Dan also has a couple other different shock brackets you might see if you like better.
