Re: Coil Spring Isolators??

I replace everything in the front end about 30k miles ago. Rubber bushings, tie rod ends, shocks, ball joints, springs ect. The ball joints are fine. It is the coil spring creeking on one side. My friend put the suspension together as i assembled the engine. I think he may have put one of the springs in wrong? Not sure. I was just wondering if these trucks called for this part because if they do they werent installed.

Re: Coil Spring Isolators??

I have two grease guns. And the joints gets greased. I notice the noise in the summer when its really hot (spring expanded somewhat). And no noise in winter. When i push down on the one side in front it creeks and sometimes i get a popping noise if pushed down enough. Someone told me to hit the spring with a mallet and that it need to be rotated a little. I plan on seperating the ball joint but was wondering if these springs call for a pad? My 71 Chevelle uses them in the rear springs. Thanks

Re: Coil Spring Isolators??

You may have one of the coil springs not sitting exactly in the spring pocket, and the pigtail end of the last coil is rubbing the coil spring stop, either on the lower control arm or up inside the pocket. It's not uncommon on a freshly-built suspension.

If you do decide to smack the spring with a mallet, have the truck jacked and all the weight off of the suspension. It won't budge if it's under a load.
