Differential/Gearing identification

I have an 83 c10 which was a 250/auto truck, now a 350/th350. Id really like to put an auburn/eaton diff in it to get rid of the "limited slip". My question is what gearing would I MOST LIKELY have, and would my current ring and pinion assembly bolt up to a auburn/eaton diff?
The truck turns very low rpm in the 40-50 mph range...

Re: Differential/Gearing identification

Do you have the SPID sticker in the glovebox?
You'll find the original factory gearing and presence of limited slip diff on the SPID stcker.

Re: Differential/Gearing identification

MOST likely is 3.08. But it could be a wide range depending on what the truck originally was. I've had 4.11 to 2.37's in my half tons, from the factory.

If the carrier is the same series, yes your gears will swap. But unless they are relatively new, and you know exactly what you're doing, it's better to just put in new gears. But you need to know the ratio.

Why do you want to get rid of the limited slip? That is a 'posi'. The two you mentioned are usually posi's. Do you actually have an 'open' diff and want a posi?

Re: Differential/Gearing identification

The ten bolt has auburn or eaton units available but I would suggest the eaton since they can be rubuilt.
