Found used SHORTY headers, need advice.

Hey all, I need some advice!

I have a 1970 GMC 2wd 1500 with small block 350. Right now it has long tube headers and i need shortys to I can lower and bag the truck. I found someone with a 1993 GMC 4x4 that has shorty headers on it and will trade me because he wants long tubes.

Do any of you know off hand, if headers that fit a 1993 GMC 4x4 (small block 350) will fit my 1970 GMC frame? I havent been able to see his truck personally because he is out of town.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Lonnie

Re: Found used SHORTY headers, need advice.

Are these block hugger headers? I tried to install a set of block hugger headers on my 69 on my 96 lt1 motor. The drivers side cleared everything, but the passenger side didn't clear my cross member. Ended up running long tube. If you can find a set that exit towards the rear of the motor, you should have no issues. There is a thread on here where a guy modified his frame/cross member to make them work.

Re: Found used SHORTY headers, need advice.

Are the block hugger headers the ones that go straight down Like this first pic? I havent seen the ones the guy wants to trade me, but I assumed these ones would not work. They look like they would go straight down into the cross member.

I found a pic of some gmc truck headers online (picture #2) and they look like they exit straight back and not down as much as the chevelle headers. I guess I will have to go look at them to see what kind they are.

The second pic here is listed as 1988-1995 GMC truck medium length headers. The third and smallest picture here are the chevelle headers that we know will fit.

From my personal experience, the first set (the block huggers) do not fit. Not sure if the second set you are showing will clear the firewall. Like you said, the 3rd will. Wish I had seen the third set when I was getting my exhaust done, I would have probably when with them myself.
