Anyone relocate their jack and tire iron from under the hood?
I just did inner fenders on the front and I kind of like the cleaner look of not having the jack on the driver side and the tools on the passenger under the hood. Might just throw them behind the bench.
Anyone else do that? |

Not a bad idea. The 88-98 trucks have a tray behind the seat for that stuff, could get one of those to make it clean

I simply threw mine away.
After lowering the truck, the factory jack did not work anyways. Also after changing wheels I never had a spare tire. You could also fabricate a box to mount them under your bed, since you have to crawl under there to get the tire anyways. Posted via Mobile Device |

lbrowne where did you get your inner fenders from? That's funny cause I wanted to do the same thing with my truck. It would be nice to find somewhere else to put those tools.

Just a local autobody shop that sells all stuff a shop would use,(actually they're a supplier for many of them) and I mean everything. They also sell body panels too.
I think they were 30 bucks each. I took them, sprayed asphalt undercoating all over them and let them bake in the summer sun. They bolted right in, but needed a couple of holes drilled for engine bay stuff. For example, it needed 3 holes for the coolant overflow bottle, one for the AC line tie down... but everything lined right up with all the right amount of holes to actually mount/install it. Install was easier than I thought. MalibuSSWagon: A box is behind the bench in later model trucks? I might have to travel to the local pick n pull! |

Though it's a Blazer, a regular 3 ton bottle jack with the lever and the tire iron fit very well under the passenger side seat against the inside of the outer bracket and doesn't move, even if I have to damn near lock up the brakes fighting with Philly traffic!

The newer trucks have a plastic tray with fitted places to secure the jack and tools. For you lowered guys they also come with a heavy duty scissor jack.

Re: Anyone relocate their jack and tire iron from under the hood?
My truck still has the factory cardboard insert behind the bench that has a little lip on it so things don't fall under the bench. The jack sits there just fine. I think that's where it'll stay.
I know it's not much but it certainly cleaned up the engine bay some! One thing I need to do soon is go grab the spare tire setup for underneath, mine has always been missing that. |

Re: Anyone relocate their jack and tire iron from under the hood?
I use a tray I bought many years ago, from J.C. Whitney, IIRC. It fits perfectly behind my bench seat and has a large, lockable compartment. I put the tools in the upper tray and mounted the jack in an open side compartment. I secured the jack with small bolts and wing nuts for ease of removal. Most people think it is original to the truck.

I've never had a blow out on the road, but is being stranded really worth the 50 lbs you save tossing out the spare and tools?
