Wheel Restoration

I finally found a set of slotted mags yesterday. They've been sitting on a '68 gmc, out in a field, for the past 5 years. Does anyone know of a good restoration company?

A couple have some minor curb rash on the lip, but other than that, they just need polishing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Wheel Restoration

Google "wheel repair California" and you'll get dozens of listings. Good luck!

Re: Wheel Restoration

Thanks a bunch. I was just suspicous of some of those as they seem to be internet portals to an out of the area business.

I guess I'm hoping to find someone that's actually had some experience with a company that they were willing to recommend.

I paid next to nothing for the set so I don't mind spending some $$ to get them where I want them.

Re: Wheel Restoration

If you were in OK I could recommend a place, but I saw you were in CA and thought you could find a place near any Mickey D's

What you describe is not a major deal since it isnt bent, so most any shop should be able to handle it.

Re: Wheel Restoration

If you know a machinist with a lathe that has enough "swing" to accept a 15" wheel, he can easily true up the wheel lips by using a cutter and milling down the rim edge. I've had it done many, many times.

After that, run the rims over to your local metal polishing shop and let 'em have at it. Slotted mags are probably the easiest mags to polish.

Re: Wheel Restoration

If you want to ship them to me, I can personally deliver them to my wheel shop. They do awesome work. Check out my wheels in my video. (signature)

They can take something beat to smithereens and turn them into something amazing.

Re: Wheel Restoration

Mario post some pictures of wheels or text me some. I do lots of polishing by hand. Could maybe help you out.

Re: Wheel Restoration

I found a local machine shop to mill down the lips of the rims, as they are the only areas with some "rash". I should have them back next week and begin the polish process. I'll post up some pictures of the process. Worst case scenario, I won't like my polish work and have to farm it out to Brandon (54Caddy) anyway

Re: Wheel Restoration

Here they are when dropped off. This is the worst of the curb rash.
