PB Dropmember question
I have a 66 C10. Can I run the drums I have now? Ultimatley Id like to keep the 6 lug and upgrade to disc and drop spindles later. I want to keep this thing a roller as much as possible because Im not going to be able to finish this build quickly but I move it in and out of the garage quite often. I know I have to get a set of 73-87 lower control arms but will that ball joint work with my spindles? Any pointer here would be appreciated.

Re: PB Dropmember question
The ball joint does matter between disc and drum but I don't see why you couldn't press a drum brake ball joint into the later lower arm if you can press the later disc ball joint into the older arm. The kit includes rack notches and tie rods but the rack is optional. I don't know if the dropmember can be run with stock steering linkage.

Re: PB Dropmember question
Thats what Im thinking but I just see everybody swapping out to 5 lug disc conversions and tubular control arms with the dropmember. I know every body has heard the guy griping about trying to build a budget minded project. Thats me right now, just trying to do my build in stages and keep it mobile.

Re: PB Dropmember question
Yup, exactly my plan. I don't wanna tear it down so much that I can't drive it because I know I don't have the extra cash to get on the phone with the suppliers and order up a bunch of goodies to throw it back together. I like PBs tubular trailing arm crossmember and the tubular replacement crossmembers because they look good and are cost effective. The T/A crossmember is good too because you can pass the exhaust through it and the trailing arm mount is adjustable.

Re: PB Dropmember question
They do have very nice stuff, I just want to get the front done first. It seems the most cost involved.

Re: PB Dropmember question
You can roll it with the factory spindle/drum brakes no problem. Like you mentioned, you will need a set of factory lowers from a 73-87 C10, then press in a pair of lower ball joints for the 63-70 and wha-la!
Let us know if you have any more questions. Nate

Re: PB Dropmember question
Not to steal the show but can you address the rack situation for us? I've been digging around in the forum to find an answer. I found a couple of sectioned crossmember threads that said anything over 1.5 drop in the member will require raising the steering gear and notching the frame to eliminate bumpsteer. I didn't see anything on your site that advertised the amount of drop.

Re: PB Dropmember question
In regards to the steering, the factory steering components will not work with the Dropmember. It is designed to be used with a 79-93 Mustang rack.
If you go to a Dropmember, a rack and pinion steering gear is in your future. Nate Posted via Mobile Device

Re: PB Dropmember question
I guess I've got a couple more questions since you chimed in Nate.
How low will the dropmember take my truck with factory arms and spindles. I may cup the lowers before slapping it together if needed, but I also read a post of yours somewhere that said firestone bags lay more flat. Are you talking about the 2600's? Also do you offer a non polished steering linkage, or could you tell me what parts I would need to build my own. Thanks. |
