help lowerin a 66 gmc lwb on a budget
i have been wanting to lower my gmc a good bit want to know how low i can go without changing the factory drum brakes. i cant seem to find any kits for my truck every where i look its 4 coil kits where i have coils in the front and 2.25" leafs in the back. saw a axle flip kit for the back to lower it but dont know how much that lowers it and what would i have to do to match the front

Re: help lowerin a 66 gmc lwb on a budget
An extreme budget drop(we did this on our shop truck a couple years ago-also a GMC)
Cut one full coil off the front springs and cut bump stop rubbers in half on front Removed leaf springs in rear, leaving only the top 4 leaves. The load capacity is a little lower but the ride is good. |

Not a great pick, but I am 6'1" so you get an idea of the truck height.
Same '66 GMC from above pic. |

Re: help lowerin a 66 gmc lwb on a budget
I'm riding in the rear like tincan. Up front I did s10 4 cyl springs and had my factory control arms stepped. CArms cost me $125...
That's on a 17" rim w a 27.5" tall tire. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: help lowerin a 66 gmc lwb on a budget
i think i will stay away from the flipping of the rear till i get more info i figure if i did that it would be to low in the back because i can only go so low on the front with just cutting the springs me and my buddy might tackle it one weekend

You can pick up some axle pads for cheap, and flip it.
Extend shackles....relocate hangers. Cut springs.....I would remove bumpstop mounts all together. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: help lowerin a 66 gmc lwb on a budget
Only if you bottom out.. I like having a little rubber there for those hard bumps you might hit. My bump stops are kinda thin but there is something there.
