Mpg...
I just got my truck all done and went on a road trip. It has a 600 edlebrock and rpm intake and headers. I also have a 700R4 and the rearend is stock 373s. I drove 85 miles and my gas hand had hardly moved so I thought I should stop cause that couldnt be right. When I did I was shocked to see my truck only held 4 gallons. Thats 20mpg... I was really happy with that! The only thing that is bad is the truck isnt very fast and on the freeway I do have to take my time to pass. I was going to put some heads and a cam in it but I think that I will just leave it for now. Anyone else had this kind of luck or is that rare?

So you checked it once and you think you got 20 mpg.
No consistency in that. Maybe it's accurate. Maybe it's not. Squeeze every last drop into it you can every time and check it 10 times. Then you'll know what mileage you're getting. On the power thing. Is the control cable from the tranny to the carb set up right? What's your timing set at? |

Ya its at transmission shop now cause the setting wasnt firm enough to make it shift right. I will check it a few more times. I filled it all the way up before I left and did the same when I stopped. Figured that would be pretty close but I know it will go up and down some.

Accurate MPG readings depend on consistency -- how accurate is up to you. You're supposed to fill up at the same station, same time of day, at the same pump each time. I don't have the patience for it....
But do this. When the nozzle clicks off, STOP -- every time you fill up. If you add more, your consistency goes out the window. Always average your three most recent fillups -- that is, the one you just did, plus the two prior tanks. This gives you a reliable average by smoothing out the high & low inconsistencies.

mine get's 8 to 10 mpg, 383 , 3:73 , turbo 350 and that's with a 650 double pumper, 500 lift cam and hauls a$$, course i did'nt bulid it to be a smartcar
