fuel pump & last nerve

my wifes 97 keeps going thru fuel pumps . 3rd in 6 months . its getting elec to it . could it be the ethenal in the gas here . last pump was a bosch .its not a hard job to replace ,just dont like getting stranded and having to tow home . had to laeve work today ,good thing all my installs were donr for the day

What's it getting for voltage, and have you replaced the fuel filter each time the pump failed?

I suggest only using OEM (Original equipment manufacturer) fuel pumps. I have seen so many pumps from other manufactures fail in the warranty period or just after the warranty is up that I suggest only using an OEM pump.

If you are shopping around, only get an AC Delco or Delphi pump.

I have a neighbor that likes buying his parts at the local Napa. He does not buy the top of the line part offered. After his third free replacement pump I had him cut it open and compare it to a OEM pump. After seeing how much different they were he agreed to put in an Delco pump and never had another problem with it.

Replace the filter if you haven't already - pushing against too much resistance will take a pump out.
I'm running a Delphi, ebay bought.

If you are using OReillys, Autozone, etc pumps you are going to get really tired of changing them out.

ok it ran fine for four days .i started it ,went back inside for a minute and was walking up to it and it died as i was reaching for the door . had to push it back in the drive .good thing it happened where it did . if there could be a good point to all this . i am very aggrivated with that thing .

139k on mine and it stopped in the driveway tonight. Fuse is good, relay is clicking so I hit the tank with a rubber mallet and it fired up (after pushing it into the garage!). Looks like I'll be dropping my tank too. I will certainly be using only OEM American made parts.

That could be really dangerous for your health as the gas pump leaks fumes. Be sure to check what are the problems to consider before you consult some specialists.

$300 for a GM pump w/assembly or new intake i have a great carb n distributer and a inline pump for the same price .last pump only lasted 4 days . i am tired of lifting the bed to work on this thing . just glad i only had to tow it home once.other times it quit in the drive way .

If you just turn on the key (don't start it) does the pump eventually shut off or is it constantly running?

And how much gas do have in the tank? I never let mine get below 1/4 as the gas is used to cool off the pump. If it gets too low constantly, you'll burn 'em up.

when it worked . i can here the pump for a sec or two then it stops .never under a 1/4 of a tank.last time it quit i started it ,forgot something in the house ,went in and was walking up to the truck and before i grabbed the dr handle it just died. good thing this time it was in the driveway .

Definite thing, go back to the factory Delco pump---the others have a tendency to have a short lifestyle. Been there, done that.

Wow that's way to often to be changing your fuel pump out. Have you been doing new fuel filter each time? I just put an Airtex fuel pump in my '88 this spring have had no problems since then. I am wandering if somehow the pumps still getting power when its off causing them to burn out?

brand new GM assembly and pump . we will see how long this lasts. $475 at the dealer.if this one goes out it will get fixed and sold asap.
