Truck Attempt 2 70 C20

So I have purchased my second truck this month. The first one a rusted out 70 C10, was sitting outside my garage, for two days, when a man stopped and asked me if I wanted to sell it. I explained I just bought it but he seemed very interested and said he was looking for a project for him and his son to work on together. Long story short I got 100 more for the truck then I paid for it and I'm pretty sure it made the guys day.

Now I have no truck. So I started looking around on Craigslist to see if there were anymore project trucks out there I could get for a good price. I came across this one, a 1970 C20. I talked to the guy today and test drove it. Its a great truck and in pretty good condition. The guy I am buying it off of is the second owner he bought it off an old farmer about 16 years ago.
Its got the original 307 still in it and has only 63,000 miles on it. The body is the original paint and has never had any body work done to it. For the most part its in good condition except a few dents and dings here and there. There are two small 1 inch rust holes on the doors, and the bed while in great condition and still strong has rusted out in the corners at the top and by the wheel wells. Looks like where water would sit in the bed if it was outside for a while. Other then that everything seems to be in working order.

I get to bring it home on Thursday and at least with this one I can drive it around while I start to work on it.

Nice buy. Very clean truck. Craigslist is the devil. If my wife could get them to block my computer from there, she would. Found about 90% of around 50 or so vehicles on there that I have owned. A couple of while in high school and a couple locally where I am stationed. I got a habit, and gotta have my fix. Looking forward to seeing more of this truck on here.

Re: Truck Attempt 2 70 C20

I'm new to old trucks, but when I was driving this around today I noticed a lot of play in the steering wheel a little more than an inches in both directions. What can I do to correct this?

You can adjust the steering gear box. There is a nut on the top of it with an allen key adjuster in the center of it. Also check the paper bushing at the steering shaft near the steering gear box. Those may not be the actual issue though. Need to check all the tie rod ends and ball joints, the idler arm, and such. Many of factors to what could cause the play. I would start with the steering components and move to the steering gear box if everything is tight.

Re: Truck Attempt 2 70 C20

So she made it home Thursday morning. Rode a lot better than I expected.

I got it home and started tinkering around to see what I could work on and decided to try to figure out why the radio wouldn't work. I took it out of the dash only to find out that there is no power cable attached to it. So I went to the fuse box and then realized the power cable is taken out completely. So guess no radio till I can buy a new one and a new cable.

Here are some pictures I took when I got home.

No they are not original mirrors. One of the two previous owners removed the stock mirrors and replaced them with the little round ones. I'm not particularly fond of the round ones so Stock looking mirrors will be one of my first purchases.

Nice find, make sure you measure the mirrors before you buy, so you don't have to drill any more holes. I believe the 69-70 mirrors are the only ones that will line up to the holes already in door.

Re: Truck Attempt 2 70 C20

Anybody notice how much better the correct 1970 painted front hubcap looks on this truck than the incorrect late 70's-80's aluminum hubcap on the rear. The flat late model cap on the rear doesn't match the body style and doesn't contrast at all with the dark bronze with white top and bumpers.

Yea I planned on it. There are three bolts on each door in the original mirror holes. I hate the little round mirrors haha.

The PO took the original hubs off the back and primered them. He gave them to me not sure why he stuck those other hub caps on. So I have all four correct hub caps just two of them are all grey
