I don't know anything about the Royal Sierra package - the experts will be along shortly - but that's a nice find.

Re: new truck! 78 gmc royal sierra

If I remember correctly it was a marketing concept to bundle some of the higher level creature comfort and appearance items into a package at discounted savings to the consumers - not too unlike those Chevy commercials you see on TV today for the "All-Star Edition" Pickups. I believe it was simply bundling of options that could be ordered separately on lower level trucks, just in this case you checked off one trim package and got them all at once. I do not remember there being anything unique and distinctive that only appeared on those models which you couldn't get elsewhere other than the badging. Essentially it made it a nicely optioned truck by checking one box instead of ten on the order form...

Nice truck...sport mirrors and bumpers....good options and colors

As previous comments indicated the Royal Sierra was a limited promo package ...I think they were based on the Sierra Grande

Is the SPID still in the glovebox...you may also find the build sheet under the front seat(look up under the seat and it will be stuck to the foam if it is there)

Original owner 70s trucks are hard to find now...with the median age of new truck buyers in their 40s that makes many of the original owners 75 + now

I bought my truck new when I was 26. I'm a "young" 61 today!

Isn't the Royal Sierra a Canadian version of the Sierra?

No. Royal Sierra is the GMC version of the Chevrolet Bonanza.
