Which y pipe to get??
Hey guys. Converting my truck to a single exhaust so it won't be as loud anymore (Tired of hearing the neighbors complain, and tired of getting pulled over by Johnny Law!!). Anyways, which y pipe do I get??
http://www.summitracing.com/search/M...=walker+y+pipe The Advance auto website says the Walker 40365 is the only one that will work, but I don't see why the other ones won't? Which one should I get? Are there any differences in the manifolds that would make them specific, or does it not matter? Thanks guys.

I used 40372 on my 76 2wd 5.7 from advanceautoparts, got $ off and free ship to door

Re: Which y pipe to get??
Assuming you have a dual setup now, a single exhaust is not the answer for quieter.
First, adding a crossover tube (H pipe) between the two sides will help with sound cancellation which will take a lot of the edge off the sound. Second, it's just a matter of getting mufflers that are as quiet as you want. A dual setup can be just as quiet as any other setup, without the flow restriction penalty. What are you running now?

Look at what the factory is doing; It's not quad exhaust, but there are 4 openings at the rear of the car. The new corvette, camaro, cadillacs etc. |

Re: Which y pipe to get??
I "was" running the factory dual exhaust, but I was so set on the single exhaust and when I took it off I scrapped everything except the manifolds. Now I gotta start from scratch again.

Re: Which y pipe to get??
I.c., there's nothing wrong with single exhaust. Besides restriction.

Re: Which y pipe to get??
You can have true duals and quiet, its all in the muffler you run and making sure there are no leaks. Also, having full-length pipes and not turndowns under the cab help too...
My 76 has full-length dual exhaust but I use GM manifolds, not headers. If you're running big headers and had bad baffles in the mufflers (or just noisy mufflers) that could be your issue right there. |

Re: Which y pipe to get??
Look up spintech. They can get your exhaust very quiet. They make mufflers that have to meet 95db requirements right off the header.
A single exhaust can be loud (think of your local fart can Honda) because exhaust velocity is high at low rpm (these peak at 3000rpm) and kill your power band above A dual exhaust can be quiter with better flow and the same velocity but with the tips pointed away the sound waves will not build on eachother. With an x pipe or h-pipe the sound will be balanced and silent. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/pye-sgt79 That system and some good mufflers should hold Johnny law away Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Which y pipe to get??
For exhaust manifolds you simply have pipe bent from the manifold down to meet the kit. Summit sells kits like this as well as exhaust shops can bend it rather easy

Re: Which y pipe to get??
Don't have the cash for the spin tech exhaust (Gotta get it going again and I make $7.50 at a sweatshop.. lol). Gonna try out the flowtech kit I found on summit next week when i get paid. Ordering from Advance auto online to get a 15% discount.
