Is anyone using a shrinking disc......

Wondering if anyone is using one of these shrinking disc and if so, how well does it work? They are available is 5" and 9". The inventor claims it will shrink out just about any heat created dent.

Yes I have both discs as well as the older Sunchaser disc. when you say heat created dents I assume you mean distortions from welding patch panels. This tool is intended as a final step in metalworking so you will still have to get it really close with hammer/ dolly work before shrinking. It's really important to use the correct grinder as the rpm determines the heat/friction output. Too slow and it simply wont work, too fast and you will overheat the metal and cause flat spots.You will likely only need the larger disc.

You run the disc over an area with high spots. The disc heats the high spots and as the high spots cools they will shrink. I use a wet rag to aid the cooling process. Its important to let the disc do the work don't press down just let the disc glide over the area. Oh also keep checking the area constantly after each cooling process so that you don't over do it.

I have one, it started out 9" now it is about 7"

Yeah they have their place. It takes a bit of practice. Like any body tool go easy on some scrap at first

Ive seen some pretty nasty damage caused by these things. Heed Caution and practice!

Its not the tool that does the damage, its the person with the tool. Welders can do a lot of damage in the wrong hands. Dolly and hammers also. I've seen it. You can't blame the tool you blame the user.

Chevette, If you want to try before you buy I have one. By the way The guy from Pro Shaper tools didn't invent the Shrinking disc, but he did invent the smooth disc with the saftey edge. He is a hell of a talented metalshaper though.

LOL. Yeah I know a guy who broke a bolt while using a torque wrench and had the nerve to get mad at the torque wrench.lol
