76 Silverado k10

Hey everyone. Names Chris, 17, Senior in HS, unemployed so this might be a little slow and I live in the Bay area of California.
Here she is the night we bought her:

1976 Chevy Silverado k10 with a small block 400. (federal so no smog! )

Bought it for a $1,000.00 from my dads old coworker who has terminal cancer so the truck has some sentimental value to it as well. No cancer, never been rebuilt but still runs strong with a rebuilt rear end. Story is that it was used to haul trailers full of who knows what over the mountains and up north through Oregon so I assume it was the beater truck. I guess the former owner kept the trend of it as a beater going seeing as it needs some work. Its my first truck and I hope to keep it and give it to my kids when they can drive.

Next day after I washed it:

Re: 76 Silverado k10

Did the brakes on her and got her some new shoes

and some new seats out of a Blazer!

Changed all the belts out today and am changing the radiator hoses and just some little stuff just to be safe. Got a deck and some new speakers for Christmas so expect those to be in this week. Got new rear and side mirrors and side panels on the way. Gonna go to a yard and pick up a stock steering wheel. I can't take this small aftermarket ones just too uncomfortable.

Re: 76 Silverado k10

Little teaser. I'll take a better picture of it without the bar tomorrow. That is probably the only thing I disliked about the truck when we bought it. I want to go for a classic look.

Also went to DMV on Friday after we got it smogged we were gonna register it but apparently the previous owners name was on the registration and mine was on the smog so I have to wait until Thursday to register it and legally drive it. Its taunting me sitting out front!

Re: 76 Silverado k10

Thanks! I mean the picture does hide some of the rust. There is some surface rust but its a 36 year old truck if it didn't have rust I'd be concerned I will post some interior and engine pics later on I need to catch some Z's lol

Re: 76 Silverado k10

I can't remmeber the name off the top of my head but they are pro comp off road tires and thats the reason I haven't put them in yet. I was thinking taking the brackets out of a blazer but unsure as of right now.

Got nothing done today by the way had some stuff to take care of. As for tomorrow I have volleyball open gym so I can't do anything tomorrow either...

Re: 76 Silverado k10

Hey guys! Sorry for neglecting you!
So for the past month what I have done is new water pump, Both front and back driveshaft as the back one fell out while driving one day and new belts and hoses. Other than that its ran pretty solid with the exception of when I'm using the right tank it cuts out but the left one works perfectly fine -____O

Re: 76 Silverado k10

Its been a while guys. I've got major news to tell you. Heres the story...
So on April 21st 2012 I was on the freeway doing some errands. I started hearing a light knock while driving. I slowed down to about 30 mph and the knocking got more loud. My main goal was to get off the freeway but at that point I thought F___ it I need to see whats going on so I threw her in neutral and pulled off to the shoulder. As soon as I did that the I heard a large clanking sound and instant smoke... turns out the motors seized and I haven't had a look at it yet. So for about 5 months my daily driver was sittin out front useless... My parents got their tax returns yesterday and decided they wanted to fix my truck for me. (Blessing from heaven) Me and my dad went down the the local chevy dealership and bought a brand new crate 350. We ended up getting the last 300hp one they had. Then we went down and grabbed a bench seat for my neighbor to restore for me.
Oh yeah I picked this 65 f250 up for 500 too. Got the carb rebuilt. Its got a 391 in it

Gonna be the new project
Excuse the crappy pics

The work site. Lol

Cherry Pickers are overrated lol

Gettin work done

more taking out

another one taking her out

I'll update more tomorrow. Exciting times in my house.

LOVE IT! Looks a lot like the '76 K10 Bonanza 4x4 that I had some 25 years ago! Wish I hadn't been such a bone head and totaled it out. It was the ONE vehicle I wish I had back! ...Joe

Thanks man.Its the greatest thing I've ever driven in my eyes. For being beat to hell by PO's it sure held out longer than expected. I plan on having this for the rest of my life. Being 18 thats a long time I wanna be baried in it. It truly is my life as funny as that may sound.

Re: 76 Silverado k10

My oh my do I have a great update for everyone.
So yesterday/twoo days ago Sept. 28th we washed the bay and cleaned up a bit, dropped in the new motor and Hooked up a little bit of stuff. Today/yesterday the 30th got everything back together fixed a few leaking tranny lines etc. Got it running sounded damn good with open headers, got her running good took her for a ride and man she shifted smooth rode great sounds great, feels like a new truck. Also got the seat back from my neighbor and it looks clean and original sittin in the truck. Happy with the finished product.

Pictures:

Found thr problem with the 400 without opening it up... Damn did a number. lmao

took a little nap/break

Droppin her in. As you know a forklift makes the job 100 times easier

Gotta buy the good stuff.

Nice shiny and CLEAN.

Nice and clean. Very happy with it. Makes the ride much more comfortable and looks much better

Here she is sittin in my grandparents driveway. Finally running again.

Also got the radiator repaired/cleaned up since it had a leak in it. I can't legally drive it til I goto the DMV on monday and take off nonop and register it again. Kinda sucks because I registered it in December and it goes by July... Oh well atleast its running right?

I'll get some shots of the seat in the truck tomorrow. Gonna wash it and do a minishoot on monday after I get her registered.

Since you asked, I'd say no. I have a billet tube grill on mine and really dislike it. I like clean painted stock grills. That's what I'm trying to find around here now.
