Why the 700r4? I was running a 700r4 behind my 454 and kept on busting it. I switched over to a th400 and no problems yet. Just no overdrive.

for the overdrive, i was going to buy the monster unit that should handle the power. i'm just aiming for a reliable 350-400hp at the flex plate

Ok, with that much hp you will be ok with the monster. They make a decent tranny.
Got ant pics yet?

no pics yet, not worth showing truck is pretty much tore down, everything but brackets removed from 2wd shortbox frame. blazer that is donating its running gear is ugly but runs well

Re: what headers for bbc 4x4 blazer

Any answer to this question? Wrestling with a 454 / BUILT 700R4 combo on stock SBC Blazer mounts that I can't find any headers to fit... Help!

The short answer is that there are NO direct bolt in long tube headers for a 4x4 K5 with a big block. Expect to do some cutting and/or welding to something. I have a set sitting on mine from HERE.

Yeah, my eyes are bleeding from reading all the posts on this subject. Not opposed to some frame trimming / modifying - just looking for the closest fit without spending $900. Thanks.

Re: what headers for bbc 4x4 blazer

Just wanted to follow up. For my situation (454, 700R4, stock SBC motor mounts and crossmember moved forward a couple inches) the Thorley 304Y was as close to a perfect fit I could find. Cut a 1/2" half-moon out of the pas. side upper frame rail to clear one tube and NO modifications on the driver side (other than reversing the lower shackle bolt to better clear the collector). Supposedly a good header for this motor as well - hope to find out soon! Found on Craigslist for $90, too!
