Exclamation Time for a swap!!

Hey everyone!

So I'm on my first build. I ended up with a sweet deal on my truck. Good body and good engine. It's been about 2 years since I got the truck and the engine is getting ready to retire.... I happy to start building my next power house of an engine... But I'm having one problem which direction do I go? Bbc, sbc, ls1, vortec, etc. so guys what have you used in the past that you've been happy with, either with hp, mpgs, or reliability. Any help/advice is much appreciated

Re: Time for a swap!!

Considering the fact that the project's name is "spare change" - I'm guessing you might want to lean towards a reliable small block chev? And personally, if that's what was already in it - that's what I'd replace it with regardless of budget. Best of both worlds. Save the $ and get an o/d trans for better bottom end (most o/d trans have a deeper 1st gear, making a 3.73 feel like a 4.10 in 1st, kinda) and also enjoy the improved fuel economy on the highway. That's my 2 cents. It's not just the engine, it's the engine/trans/rear combo that makes a car enjoyable. If your truck already had a big block (from the factory), I'd stick with that.

Bottom line - depends what you want to do with the truck. Race? BBC / Cool and have a lot of $? LS1 / Daily driver? SBC.
