51 cab suspension

with the cab mounted using the frame mount at front and the stock swing arm type of mount at the rear, the cab looks like it sits too low in the back, so I unbolted the stock stuff , and raised the rear about 5/8" . now the door belt line runs parallel to the bed rail, and looks nice.

question...can I simply mount the cab to the frame in the rear like the front?

solid block or thick rubber bushing? maybe a small block with 1/4 " rubber on top and bottom?

theres about 1 1/4" space between the frame and the reinforced area on the cab with where it sits now...

Re: 51 cab suspension

I'm sure that's been done but you could also make a spacer for the mount that bolts to the bottom of the floor of the cab.

You do have new bushings in the mounts as they sag like crazy with old worn bushings

One thing, unless you have boxed the frame and made it pretty stiff it will flex some when you go over places like driveway entrances and that is why it has the shackles on it. mounting it fairly solid to the frame on all four corners might cause cab flex that you don't want if the frame is stock.

here is how the shackles go together .

One thing that just came to mind, Someone hasn't cut the seat riser and the crosspiece that goes across the floor of the cab at the back edge of the seat out have they? If it was cut out to create a flat floor all the way back that may allow the cab floor to sag. That was one of my things I found I shouldn't have done on my old cab.

The piece that runs from the door post across to the other door post.

Re: 51 cab suspension

I took my shackles off yesterday and there was about 1/2" of shims between the floor and the mount. They look stock.

Re: 51 cab suspension

mr48, seat riser is there, new shackle and bushing.
mknittle, a 1/2" shim would just about do it between the floor and the shackle plate.

sounds like it might be best to put a spacer there and let the cab move instead of solid mount and chance flexing the cab..

thanks....

Re: 51 cab suspension

i like the shackles. last month I replaced on the floor in front of the seat riser.i was able to lift each front corner enough to use a 2" spacer for grinding clearance.
