Moving cab and bed?
Het guys,
I'm working on my '71 sbfs. I've got the bed off and sitting on milk crates in the shop, but its taking up a lot of space. Id like to stand it up on the front edges, which I've seen done a lot. I'm worried about bending the front lower edges when I tilt it up. Are those corners strong enough for that, or will I need to lift it completely and not pivot on those corners? Sorta have the same question about rolling the cab onto its back. Will the corners bend, or are they strong enough to roll the cab back on? It's just me and a buddy doing the moving. If they need to be completely lifted, I'll need to line up more help. Thanks, Keith Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

I'd get more help so you can lift it up and set it down rather than rolling it up and risking bending the corners. My luck has always been that if I try to do something and don't have enough help things go wrong in a hurry.

Re: Moving cab and bed?
I have had my 8' fleetside bed standing on its nose for over a year. Moved a few times with a forklift just by tilting it on the forks with me and another guy. Granted this is not a finished bed but they have a lot of steel in them and are quite sturdy. Just make sure you a tilting it evenly and not tilting from the bottom. The top side of the box is strongest.

Re: Moving cab and bed?
Why not pick up a couple of furniture dollies and join them together? You could stand the nose of the bed on top of the dollies and be able to roll it around. But, you'd also want to have some thing to tie it to, to keep it from being able to fall on top of someone. Maybe tap into the studs of your shop area. The structure wouldn't be supporting the bed, just serving as a restraint point.
