New to the forum.. And a new Project.

Hey guys, Just bought this 87 a few weeks ago, feel free to post your comments.

Info so far..

1987 GMC Wrangler, tbi/ 350/ 700r4 shift kit/ 3.42 10 bolt GM limited slip/ static drop/ dual exhaust/ 15x7 fronts 215/70's 15x8 rears 295/50's

Started out with, Cap rotor, aurora wires, ngk's gaped to .45, efi temp sensor, flex lines and rotor/pads, flushed all fluids, 195 t-stat, removed the air pump and tubes, adding a b&m 2/4 servo soon.. not too sure if i should ditch the est and tbi and just go to a hei/carb setup. Ultimate tbi mods and large throttle bodies/injectors, knock sensor and cam choice, burning chips and that bs is not looking like its worth the effort for basic efi...

Welcome to the forum and sharp looking truck!!

If you're going a performance route with the truck, get rid of the tbi. Save some money and frustration.

i think if i stay with a 600cfm and just do mild mods like cast heads small cam headers hei i should get the power im looking for and still be ok on fuel.. or the same as it would be with big injector tbi setup?

Re: New to the forum.. And a new Project.

Just picked up an 87 myself over the weekend. I'm keeping mine fuel injected since it'll be little more than a cruiser.

Performance wise my high school buddy (whom now is one of the best tuners in the lsx world) had an 87 he threw countless amount of mods including a holley commander 950. He finally realized the fuel injection was the limiting point and moved on.

If I decide to do any performance mods to the truck the fuel injection is the first thing I'm getting rid of.

looks like we are on the same path... computer out, toilet bowl in. I think efi systems of this gen are just not up to the challenge of power and economy.. i think the designers where only worried about emissions in the 80's everything else was an after thought.
