Head Gaskets???
I noticed a leak coming from under my 84 K10 the other day. It is an oil coolant mix that is coming from the left valve cover gasket area and the front crank area. I assume it is a head gasket. Is that a safe assumption? I know it's pretty common with these trucks. The motor is a 350. I just replaced the valve cover gaskets and oil pan gasket with Fel-Pro's. What do you guys recommend for head gaskets? Besides head gaskets, intake gaskets and head bolts and obviously new fluids. What else do you guys recommend getting?

Re: Head Gaskets???
It's not a head gasket. No oil can leak from a head gasket. Check your heater and rad hoses for coolant leaks plus check your valve covers for leaks since you just replaced them.

Re: Head Gaskets???
Sounds like the intake gasket, with your description.

Re: Head Gaskets???
Okay the more people I talk to they seem to think it is an intake gasket too.

Re: Head Gaskets???
On second thought I would suspect your seal on timing cover is leaking. From the oil pan gasket you did. You did use the right one. There are 2 sizes for the front rubber seal.
Did you leave the timing cover in place when you did the pan gasket? |

Re: Head Gaskets???
I know I learned the hard way about the different size oil pan gaskets. And I did leave the timing cover on when I did the oil pan gasket.

Re: Head Gaskets???
Did you silicone the new front pan gasket to the bottom of the timing cover. They will move easily.
Is your timing cover the factory style with a gasket retaining lip? |

Re: Head Gaskets???
I did silicone the front and rear half moons. I assume my timing cover is factory. I haven't looked at it that close.

Re: Head Gaskets???
Your timing cover might be all right.
Did you find or fix the coolant leaks you had? I had a leaky heater hose on my water pump that the coolant ran down and along the top of the pan rail and appeared looking oily like on the dust cover for my tranny. The coolant cleaned off enough oily grime in it's travel to look like an oil leak. Strange things happen. |

Re: Head Gaskets???
I pretty sure the intake gaskets are the cause for the coolant leaks. It is leaking from the back side of the left head by the valve cover area (thats why I thought it was maybe coming from the valve cover gasket). I just got the truck and replaced the radiator, hoses, heater hoses, water pump, thermostat, all fluids. This gm stuff is all new to me. I have always wanted a square and finally got the funds to get one that was in decent shape. Any tips to doing intake gaskets?
