factory oil pressure guage
Truck is an 87 GMC R1500. stock engine was 305 TBI, which was blown upon purchase. I put in an 85 305 block which was using an aftermarket mechanical oil pressure guage.
When I put in my 350, I just remained with the aftermarket mechanical guage, connected behind the distributor. Now, I am wanting to go back w/ factory oil pressure guage in the guage cluster. But I am not sure what wire I am looking for coming out of my harness & where on the block will it connect? Any help is appreciated. Mike |

Re: factory oil pressure guage
Update,
I saw on a wiring diagram that the oil pressure switch is a single tan wire. After inspecting my factory harness, I found a single tan wire, hanging directly behind the dizzy. The terminal is a female spade clip. The wire is not very long maybe 8-10 inches off the main harness, long enough to plug into something around the dizzy area. Am i in the right area? Mike |

Re: factory oil pressure guage
You will have to get the appropriate sending unit. It will screw in the place where your existing mechanical gauge tube goes, behind the distributor. Make sure you get a sending unit for a gauge, as the idiot light sending unit goes in the same place.

I may not have the correct sending unit as my pressure fluctuates I know I have good pressure This one is shaped like a bell I wonder if there are ones for different yr 350 blocks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: factory oil pressure guage
That sounds like the correct sending unit, and the pressure should most likely fluctuate with RPM. If you romp on it, does the pressure go up? What does it idle at, and what does it go up to if you give it a lot of gas?
