4 or 6 inch lift?

should i go 4 or 6 inch lift on a 72 k20 chevy? tire size 35's on 16 inch rims

I'd skip the body lift and go with 6" suspension. Just my opinion.... I've never cared much for body lifts.

you can get 35s with just 4". i really like the way these trucks look with 4 inches. plus it really keeps it in a more usable height. i had 8 on mine at one time and it was really really tall.

35s with 4" isn't very usable when your tires snag on your fenders with the slightest amount of flexing. I like them no taller than necessary ad used to cut fenders,but now that I don't like to do that I have found that it takes 6" to clear 35s mounted on 10" wheels. Maybe with 8" wheels it will take more flexing.

the truck in my avatar had 33s and only a 2 1/2" and never got close to the fenders. the offset of the wheels has more to do with the rubbing than the diameter(to a point). if you get a wheel with a little less offset you can fit a lot more tire. but i have never had a truck with 35s so i will defer to your experience.

Hey tim your old blue truck with the side bed tool box you had a 6 inch lift on that right with 12.5/35? i like the look of that truck. i saw different truck on here that say the had 6 inches of lift with 35's and the tires look way to small. But on yours it doesnt your truck look really good

For me, 6". I like a good amount of wheel well clearence though. I have 33's with a 6'.

Definitely go with a 6", a friend of mine went with 4"/35s and her truck has clearance issues. I'm running 35x12.5s on my K20 with 15x10 wheels. No rub.

I never had a problem with 36in military's on a 4in lift then i put on a body lift and put on 38s which only rub when you ramp the front end and slam it down

You are right about wheel width and/or offset making a big difference for what size tire fits.Often the difference between 8" and 10"makes all the difference. With a 10" wheel you have to have more outside "dish" than back space and with 8" it can be 50/50. I can't say I've run a 12.50/35.8" wheel,4" lift combo before. I have run a lot of combos all around that,though,and I'm going by what is recommended by suspension companies. I've run 12.50/33s on 10s with no lift at all with it hardly ever rubbing. I've run 12.50/35s on 8" wheels with add-a-leafs (so it appeared) and they rubbed a good bit. The truck sat at least 2" over stock. With badly aged cab mounts you get away with less. Before I replaced them on the truck described below,the tires could rub when turning up a grade.

That truck had 6" Tuff Country Ez-Ride springs,12.50/35 (315/75),and 10 x 16 wheels. And thanks. I sure miss that truck. Wish I couda kept it,but thanks to Daytona B!tch (OOPs),I mean my x-wife I got desperate.

Was that on a 67-72? What width wheel? I have 12.50/35-16s,10" wheels,and 4" lift on my '85 Jimmy and they will rub when cutting up a grade. I have 12.50/37 Super Swamper SSRs for my '72 K2500 that I have a 6" lift for and I'm concerned they may be too tall. I put together a set of 8.25" wheels and sold the 9.75s hoping that will make the difference. But I may end up needing to put zero-rates on. I had a '71 Blazer with 7" lift,13/37-15 Super Swampers,and 8" wheels. I wheeled it hard and never rubbed a tire. Another thing that plays into this is tire type. An all terrain will be more forgiving in a marginal situation that a mud tire with big or even side lugs. I guess flexy vs stiff springs make a difference,too.

No they were on my suburban although i don't know the exact tire size i just remember they were 36s and now my 38.5s current tsls are on a harder to find wheel size, im pretty sure they havent rubbed in any situation except two which was a hill climb and a mud pit both of which i ramped and crushed one shock tube on my dual steering stabilizer setup

I really wanted a 6" lift to go with my 315/75/16's I settled for a 4" rough country (due to a budget) and am now disappointed. If I could do it all over I'd do a tuff country 6" I dont have any issues with the rough country lift as many will say rides rough etc, rides like my last 70k20 did just not tall enough for my likes.

Here's a little info don't know how correct it is but here it is. And different suspension company claiming a little deferent with the same size lift.I am thinking of superlift b/c i had that brand on my "79 and they have heavy duty springs.I was also thinking of going with skyjacker. But still unclear of want i really want to go with. I though i had a generel tire chart some where which i can not find that tells tire size and what to do as what size lift and if you got to cut the finders or body lift and so on

Those charts only give diameter. tire width,lug design,wheel width,and offset all matter when you got to the line between lift sizes. Also,HD vs soft ride matters due to varying flex amounts.

On my blazer, with a 6" skyjacker lift, and 36" swampers on some factory 15x8" steel wheels, I cut the back of my front fenders all the way back to the fender brace, and trimmed the front of the rear fender edges by a couple of inches. In the rocks my tires still rubbed hard on the front fenders. It really depends on how you intend to use it. If you need to, just add some taller axle stops to prevent rubbing.

I started off with a 4"on my 86 K30 with 33", and very disappointed. I already had HD springs so the lift only raised it about 1 1/2", the front eye of the rear springs mounts higher on a 1 ton also so I was down about an 1" out back from that alone.
My 33' on 10" wheels was catching the fenders every once in a while during heavy turning and an incline. I'm around 5"-5 1/2" or so now, still with the 33" and looks better, switching to 8-8 1/2" wheels soon and will put the tires in the wheel wells a little nicer.
Start with the 6" with the 35" for sure, that's a nice height/tire combo.
You will have clearance issues if you go 4" with the 35".

I have what I assume is a 4" lift on my K5. I added 1" body lift, made of aluminum pucks, from ORD when I installed new body mounts. I like the extra clearance it gives for the PS hose to the steering box. I have 33x10.5x15 on 8" rally wheels and it looks like a ton of room. I'm pulling everything apart now for a D60/AAM 14 bff and upgrading to 315/70/17 on H2 rims. I'll take some pics when finished.
