Door won't open

Went to get in my truck about an hour ago and now the door won't unlock from either the inside or the out. I had to climb through the passenger side to get in and out. I haven't had a chance to take the door panel off to look at it yet. Any ideas of what might have happened? Not that it matters but its an 87 silverado.

Re: Door won't open

My truck did this and I had to get in the door and physically unlock the door the mechanism. I think that some of the rods that worked the mechanism were bent but I didn't really look into it, but that's what it felt like.

Re: Door won't open

If power door locks, think inoperative power door lock switch or actuator. I also had a corroded lock rod which was sticking. You might have to try a "slim jim" to open the door, then take off the door panel and investigate. I am assuming that the door lock rod (door lock button) is not moving. I suppose the latch could be defective, but I have never had that problem.

Re: Door won't open

My truck (manual lock) does this ALL the time. I would lock the door, try to get out, then realize it was locked and try to unlock it and it won't go, you have to push the outside handle like you are opening the door and it will un-jam your lock mechanism and you should be able to unlock it.

Re: Door won't open

same thing happened to me too - mine turned out to be the push button knob too - sprayed penetrating oil on the spring inside the door and on the sides of the knob itself - fixed it right up

Re: Door won't open

Try pulling the inside handle all the way to the stop, then let it go so it slams back to its original position; now try pulling up the door lock.

Re: Door won't open

My door locks did this once when it sat for winter last year. I just got a tarp layed it in the ground and hit the window with a hammer. Lol 20 dollars and some lube later I had a new window and nice smooth door locks

Re: Door won't open

I'll concur, that a fresh application of lube should solve this issue for you. However, when I was stuck with this problem, I really had a difficult time getting the door panel off, with the door closed. Finally did, but was not fun at all.

Once you get access to the door insides, there is a bracket on the rear edge of the door where the strike is, that 'rocks' up and down, with the manual lock that comes out the top of the door. Once you can get to that, you may be able to pop it to it's other position, to unlock the mechanism. I had no luck using a 'slim-jim' to try and unlock mine. This is probably where the lubrication will make the most difference, solved mine.
