To go HID headlights or not....

Do HID headlights really suit our old trucks? On a hotrod custom style maybe. Im going for more of a resto-mod look. All stock looking with big wheels and bagged. All factory trim, factory interior etc. I cant make up my mind on headlights. Keep the Halogen or go 4300K HID.

Obviously HID are superior in performance, but Im just talking about how they "look" and if they suit a 67-72 truck. I personally love HID's and have them in ALL my vehicles except my 1970 GMC. I kinda think the dim, yellowish halogens suit the old trucks style.

What do you guys think?

im blind as **** at night so i like MOR LIGHTS!! I plan on putting in some hids. I also am replacing the tail lights and housings. I noticed again last night as I pulled in that the back of our trucks are no where near as bright as new cars.

i put hids from xentec in both of my trucks i love them!!!!! very bright, 6000k is the way to go for brightness, i got mine from a dealer name orange, mika on ebay, quick shipping fof low beams its less then $40 for the kit i have had them for a year in my c10, friends have them in their imports.... for like two years, replaced on balast thats it, $15 for a new balast

What Im asking is if the "look" of HID's suits our 67-72 trucks. I know its a big performance upgrade, but I dont want people to think "ricer" when they see an old truck with HID's. Ive already got relays installed. Those jeep lights wont fit in my GMC unfortunately. I think I will just stick with my halogens to keep with the vintage old school look.

To answer your question (actually, to offer my opinion).... as much as I appreciate the performance of HIDs, I don't particularly care for the way they look in our trucks. If you want a real upgrade (besides the relays) go with E-code lamps, and stick with brand names like Cibie (hard to find and expensive, but very good) or Hella (easier to find, less expensive, and just as good as Cibie except for the beam pattern, IMO).

I am going to go with LMC's replacement headlights that use the H5 bulbs (I think). They look really nice and have a clean look. The are a huge improvement in lighting. But, it is all really just a preference on what you want.

I will switch to H4 or whatever headlights they are when my current ones burn out. I might just do H4's for low high on the outside and then a dedicated high beam on the inside 9005 or 9006 or whatever it is.

If you want brighter, but keep the warm "yellow" glow of original, just get bigger wire to run to your headlights. Just a thought...

That's a great idea, you won't be disappointed. I had E-codes (can't recall if they were now-defunct Marchals or Cibies) in my '66 Corvette, H4 Hi/Low in the outer positions, and H1 high beams. Low beams were very good, and high beams were incredible. Because of the dual-beam capability of the H4s, the high beam pattern was fairly wide. The dedicated H1 highs had a narrower beam that reached farther down the road. Combined, they lit up a very large area, very brightly.

As I understand it (don't quote me on this) there are cheap kits but they are not a good idea (lots of glare, very poor light pattern control). A true HID setup won't be cheap and it won't use housings designed for bulbs.

I went with LMC truck lights which are the H4. I used there relay kit also. I thought the lights were not bright enough. I bought a HID kit from DDM Tuning 6000K. I have bought stuff from them before, stuff is cheap on price but I have never had an issue with there products.

Go with the HID kit, you wont regret it. I get mixed reviews, some people love em, and some hate them. Don't care, its my truck.(mostly the older crowd that does not approve)

Pic the night I was getting them aimed. I had my buddy drive in front me and make sure I was not blinding him, he said not at all
