Put The Silver '68 To Work Today
-
I cut a couple of trees down the other day so I figured I might as well make the '68 earn it's keep. I don't have very far to haul it so the old girl shouldn't complain too much... LockDoc

I don't have to worry about the big pieces. A friend of mine burns wood so he comes and gets them... LockDoc

Re: Put The Silver '68 To Work Today
Good work trucks for sure. Hey Leon, I sold my work van a while back and have been working out of the 72. The truck is definitely working harder than I am.

Re: Put The Silver '68 To Work Today
That '68 wouldn't complain even if she was overloaded. These trucks are old school from the day when whining was kept silent
Mine smiles when I use her to haul a bit. The county cut some dead (and live) stuff along the road. They had a section of my road closed a few days and I wondered why. First time through I saw the wood laying. The rule is first come first serve,so I got home, fired up the '72,and went to fetch up some firewood.

Re: Put The Silver '68 To Work Today
Yeah Leon, one of these days Im going to get caught in some precipitation.
May have to buy an enclosed trailer. I love my truck and don't want another van. Here is "Sally" with 98 yards of carpet and 60 yards of pad that I picked up in Topeka this morning. She can handle a lot more, even with aftermarket drop springs. Wish I could've stopped by Teeitup's. |

Wish I lived closer to you Blacksheep. The ring paterns in that wood would work great in my shop to make bowls.

Re: Put The Silver '68 To Work Today
The locust can make a saw chain spark when seasoned. It gets rock hard. Old timers used it for fence posts and pole buildings,it's very rot resistant. No sparks when burning that I recall. I have an Elm here on my property that got sick (Dutch Elm disease) and died. I've been burning that in the past. I still have what's left of the trunk to pull over and cut up. I think it's ready to give. I still have a chain around it from trying last year. Red oak is the most preferred around here, but I like softer woods like Poplar and wild cherry. I think oak is best for fireplaces and that's where poplar and cherry good a reputation for burning too fast. In my stove I can all but shut the intake slots and it will burn long and hot...a good 8 hours. Oak needs more air to burn and it lasts 1/2 as long. If I cut the air down it just makes charcoal...burns real cool.
Hey Leon, did you unload that brush yet?
