Re: Put The Silver '68 To Work Today
The locust can make a saw chain spark when seasoned. It gets rock hard. Old timers used it for fence posts and pole buildings,it's very rot resistant. No sparks when burning that I recall. I have an Elm here on my property that got sick (Dutch Elm disease) and died. I've been burning that in the past. I still have what's left of the trunk to pull over and cut up. I think it's ready to give. I still have a chain around it from trying last year. Red oak is the most preferred around here, but I like softer woods like Poplar and wild cherry. I think oak is best for fireplaces and that's where poplar and cherry good a reputation for burning too fast. In my stove I can all but shut the intake slots and it will burn long and hot...a good 8 hours. Oak needs more air to burn and it lasts 1/2 as long. If I cut the air down it just makes charcoal...burns real cool.
Hey Leon, did you unload that brush yet?
