Stock Ralley wheels clearance issue

Hello fellas,
I have 15x8 Chevy ralley factory wheels with 275/60r15 BFG radials ta on all four corners. It has 2.5 drop spindles with 1 inch drop springs up front with 5 inch drop springs on the rear. I had two new tires mounted on my freshly powder coated rims and now the wheel weights hit on the tie rods.

Has anyone had this problem before? Let me know what needs to be done, getting pretty tired of car pooling with the wife.

Some kit's have issue's with clearing stock wheels. Usually they state that with there description of the disc brake kit.

I hate to ask what may sound stupid but here goes, are you hitting the tires or the rims. A spacer may help. But that is a large 15 tire for the front

To clarify, I am not sure if you did a disc brake conversion. But with some drop spindles, you may not be able to use stock rims. Usually they tell you that in the description of the product.

Re: Stock Ralley wheels clearance issue

No stupid question by no means, I should have clarified it more.

My truck is a 1972 Chevy swb Cheyenne. It has factory disc brakes.
The wheels clear all except now the "new style" lead balance weights on the inside rim lip hit the tie rod. Apparently there is a new design on balance weights that are thicker. I'm thinking I'm going to have to go with stick on balance weights.

Yes the new weights are slightly bigger. You'll need to get your wheels static balanced with stick on weights. To keep the stick on weights in place use some duct tape over them and seal them to the rim. They'll never fall off then.

Hitting the weights, that's something I never considered. I'll have to look out for that when I get that far along.

Re: Stock Ralley wheels clearance issue

On my '96 GMC, the drop was done with DJM spindles. There is an issue with those parts that will cause the back side of the rims that are wider than 7-inches, to contact the lower control arm. My cuz did a drop on his and used BellTech, with 15x8's (4-inch backspace) and no issues with the wheel and lower control arm making contact.

My '69 C-10 has Early Classic spindles and 15x8's (4-inch back space) with no inteference.

So, it depends on the spindles and the backspacing. A larger diameter wheel will also move the weights further away from the control arm, which is why I used 16x8's on my GMC.

Had to grind my control arms to fit 15x8 rallys with 2.5 drop spindles. Just yesterday!

X2.
This is the problem.
I've been grinding lower control arms to clear rally wheels since the mid 80's.
No big deal.
Any 15" wheel with more than 3.5" of backspacing will require this.
15x8 rally wheels have a 4" BS.

Re: Stock Ralley wheels clearance issue

Had to do a pretty good bit of grinding to get the wheels to turn full lock. I did not expect that.

Do you have any pictures of this by chance?

Also, you have the Wilwood D52's up front on 12" rotors? Maybe I'm confusing your truck, I've been doing SO much research it all blurs together, lol. Wilwood, Billwood, MyWood, YourWood...who knows.
