Does Dakota digital VHX use same harness?

Thinking about ordering the Dakota digital VHX kit and was wondering if it plugs into the main harness that is already in the vehicle or do I need to rewire everything... Hoping it was a pretty easy install. Anyone put one in?

Thanks for reading.

I have. The Dakota stuff uses a different sending unit for oil pressure and water temperature and no, it doesn't plug into your old harness. There is a "brain" that drives the gauges. The wire from your gas tank sending unit, dash lights, ignition switch and an un-switched power source are about the only wires from your old harness that are used. The speedometer uses a supplied pulse generator depending on what transmission you are using and there is also a tach wire you need to hook up, it works good with a factory HEI dist. There is also some programming to do after you get it installed. Here's a picture.

Thank you for telling me about that! Did the instructions thoroughly explain how to run all the new wires and tap into the main harness? Thanks again. Those gauges look amazing!!

Good question, good info. Perfect reason why this forum is so awesome.

The instructions are pretty good. Don't put the water temp. sender in the head, you get inaccurate water temp readings. The control box (brain) is well marked, however, you need to identify the circuits in your existing harness and extend those wires to the location you mount the control box. Solder your connections.

Can any stock style bezel be used for these or would I have to buy the one they sell for $99?

The stock bezel works with no modifications.
