My plan for my 67 is an LS swap, unsure on trans. Even if you went with a carb, the DIS ignition is so much more efficient and advanced, it's much easier to get good mileage, and a 5.3L will bolt right up to whatever trans you want, really. And it's super easy to get a motor that has another 150k left in it for under $2k.
