Re: Advice on Vortech 5.3 swap

you shouldn't have to modify the frame. You may have to use the hot rod swap or ls1 oil pan and motor mount adapters, but other than that you should be good. Corvette C5 manifolds and many other ls car manifolds should fit without hitting the frame...

No frame modifications need to be done. You will have to relocate the a/c compressor if you plan to keep it. Not a big deal and you can get a set of headers from one of the vendors on here that fit really well.

I'm thinking of doing this too. Any good threads or websites that cover it?

Re: Advice on Vortech 5.3 swap

I put a 4.8/4l60e in my 65 and no, no frame mods need to be done, as long as you will have the high mount AC ( if you have AC). I used POL perches and mount plates from Summit ( I think). trans cross member from CPP and Sanderson Shortie headers ( CSLS1).

Re: Advice on Vortech 5.3 swap

You can run the A/C compressor in the factory location. You just need to use a 90 degree connector block and ECE motor mounts.

Re: Advice on Vortech 5.3 swap

Topfuel1966, that is what I did, but I trimmed about 1/2" or so of frame just for good measure. I also use the doc's blocks for the connections but, I guess those are not offered any longer.

I think Captainfab needs to start selling the mounting plates for LS swaps to add to his line of fine products.

I think headers will play a big part in what needs to be done with the frame. I dont recommend fbody headers on this truck they are a pain in the arse. Wish I had spent the extra bucks on good headers.

I tried that and it took me almost a year to sell one set.
