gas tank sending unit help
im building a 72c10 that originally had three speed column but im going with th350. there are two different sending units difference being auto or manual trans. im using the original tank and gauge so which one should i get. also installing painless wiring. any help would be appreciated.

I've never heard of a specific gas tank sending unit for a specific trans, the sending unit should be the same no matter what transmission you have.

I read once it is the resister on the back of the gauge one can change out. Must be for different tanks not trannies.
My fuel cell when full only reads 1/4 tank on the gauge, so I was wondering about this too....

If is isn't reading correctly, it could be the wrong unit for the tank. Also if it has a brass float there may be a tiny pin hole allowing gas into the float so it doesn't rise as high as it should. I bought one of these floats for mine and it works great so far.

The fuel cells have three choices and I guessed at the first one.
summit racings different sensors: 0 empty-90ohms full 233 empty- 30 ohms full 70 empty -10 ohms full

mine was 0-90 ohms for the in cab tank but now I am getting a stainless cell built for under the bed anyone know if I would use the same rating unit?

Del72, You would need the 0-90. Your gauge is an analog ohm meter. It doesn't matter what tank, only what ohm range it reads.
My suppliers parts book shows a 72 auto has 2 outlets and a 72 with manual has only one fuel outlet on the sending unit. 71 and older are the same either way, only 6 cylinder vs 8 cylinder options.
