4 wheel Low, but no high in 87 Chevy
Hey everyone, i have been shopping for a while for a winter truck and i happened upon a friend who knew someone with and 87 chevy for sale. I went and looked at it and couldn't pass up the truck. He said the 4 wheel drive works, and I can't seem to get it into 4 wheel hi. It seems to go right into 4 wheel low, but i don't get anything in 4 wheel high. Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I bought it for the snow, and well its not very helpful without 4 wheel drive. lol.

Linkage is probly bound up on it. Kinda weird that it goes in low but not high....

I was thinking linkage too, maybe a bad shift fork?

Re: 4 wheel Low, but no high in 87 Chevy
First, does it work in 2 high? does it go in to neutral? I couldn't get mine into 4 low and it was linkage frozen up. Does the indicator move to 4 high or does it seem to get stuck at 2 high? jim

Re: 4 wheel Low, but no high in 87 Chevy
thanks for all the quick answers. yes it does go into 2 high, and yes it will go into neutral. as i pull the lever back it goes all the way to 4 high, but once i let go and move the truck the lever seems to slip forward out of position towards 2 high. Its very odd, the 4 wheel drive was working on Saturday when i picked the truck up. When i go to 4 low, you can hear a slight gear grind and it goes right in and works in 4 low, but nothing at all in 4 high.

You have answered your own question. Adjust the shift linkage and you should be just fine. jim
