new to me 1986 C30 dually (lots of pics)

I've been lurking on this forum for many years, admiring all the trucks and builds, but finally got an old square again after 10 or so years of later model GMs.

So here she is, my new '86 C30 dually:

Where she sat:

After I got her fired up and moved:

After an hour or two pressure washing:

All systems go, ready to drive home (still note LOTS of dirt - this was just a phase one cleaning, lol ):

A guy I've been doing some work for (upgrades to '50 Chevy pickup, might start a thread for that) had this poor truck sitting on his property. She has 105K original miles, stacks of receipts, same owner since 1996 (he bought her at 40K), 350/400, 4:10's, dual batteries, nice wheels, and some other goodies. He used to tow a tractor around town to jobs so that's pretty much all she's done. I guess the first owner had a camper but didn't use it much.

He ran it a few times a year but hasn't had the need to drive it after buying a new truck years ago. Wife wants it gone, so we worked out a deal and now shes mine. Charged the batteries, put some good fuel in it and it started right up. The guy teared up a bit when I drove her away.

This is my first 2WD truck, and to be honest I'm not sure if I will keep her since its not really practical for me. I just sold my 4x4 (a *cough* Powerstroke *cough* that I traded a Jeep for) so I needed a truck, but really need four wheel drive. I am now a poor college student again so that limits everything obviously. First things first though: get the maintenance caught up, clean clean clean, fix all the bugs, and put some real miles on her.

I'm already in love with this truck, and have been searching thread after thread on 4x4 conversions. Also been looking at dropping it... never had lowered anything and have seen some on here that look awesome. So expect me to be posting a lot about both... This truck would be so cool 4x4. What do you guys think?

Looks like its all there except for a rear bumper, but the tag relocation looks like it was done well. The marker lights and aluminum wheels are a nice bonus and the interior looks great. Take off the bug deflector and maybe the big mirrors and slam it. Sweet truck.

Lower it. Dullys can be had for a song in E. Washington so save up for a 4x4. One in the weeds, one in the trees...

Re: new to me 1986 C30 dually (lots of pics)

Thanks guys.

Its looking more like I may drop her. After searching many threads, this is what I have come up with:

Western Chassis 3" drop spindles
Western Chassis flip kit + C notch
shocks
bump stops
cut coils
brake lines?
anything else?

When searching this site, I see a lot about Western 6/8 drop kit, but can't find it on their site. What would you guys recommend with a max budget around 1K?
