Possible small block problem - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Just got done tearing down my 350 because i was going to rebuild it for another project. Anyway here is what i found.

All eight cylinders have a chip out of the bottom of the cylinder but this one is by far the largest of them. Not real sure what to do about it, torn apart plenty of small blocks and none were like this. Just seeing what could have caused it and what to do about it.

Looks like a casting/pouring flaw. File it round and a crack won't form.

A very common casting flaw - just take mounted point abrasive stone (80 grit is common) and take that sharp notch out. This will reduce a probability of stress fracture forming there.

This block is already 30 over, the plan was to go another 10 on the rebuild ya think that may cause any problems with this even after the edge is taken off?
