Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

Is it true that a crew cab and a crew chassis cab will have the same wheelbase (164.5")? So if I bought a crew cab with a service bed on it, a regular long bed should bolt right on (with correct cab/bed gap) even if it was a crew chassis cab right?

Yup unless an after market chassis builder modified it. I take it the service bed is an 8 footer.

Re: Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

Thanks for the help guys. In my searching I have come across several flatbed and service body crew cabs. They are usually hours away from me so I wanted to determine if the wheelbases are the same before I drive a long way. I will definitely measure them when I actually go look.

Re: Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

Depends.

There were three Cab Chassis model wheelbases available from the factory; C30903, C31003 and C31403

The 309 would be the same as the pickup but the other two would be longer.

Re: Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

Thanks for the info Keith. Your input is always valuable. So, just to be clear, are you saying that the C30903, C31003, and C31403 are all crew cab body styles?

Here is a link to one of Slosh's pages: http://brochures.slosh.com/dimension...k-page-149.jpg . It does show the C309 as having the 164.5" wheelbase. What are the wheelbases of the C31003 and C31403?

Thanks alot for the help!

Actually, I zoned a little bit when I typed the model codes, since for crew cab it would be C30943, C31043 and C31443.

I can't find my wheelbase chart currently but as soon as I do I'll post em up.

Thanks for correcting those model numbers Keith and if you could find the wheelbase numbers for those it would be great. Thats really what I'm interested in.

CK30943 164.5 wheelbase crew cab
CK 31003 135.5 cab chassis
CK 31403 159.5 cab chassis
C31043 is a current model wheelbase not available in square body?
C31443 same thing, current models only?

Re: Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

In the crew cab trucks the frame length is all the same;it was actually a problem to mount a service body or a wrecker on a chevy crewcab as they were onlly 56 inch cab axle...same as a pickup.
The reg cabs were available in 56 cab axle(with or without box) 60 inch cab axle (the industry standard for service bodies swb)or 84 inch cab axle

Any crewcab (except modified frame units) is an easy unit to drop a box on.

If you want to use the factory dually box you need the wide track dana 70 to replace the narrow 14 bolt used on chassis cabs

Re: Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

Thank you for the post 80Sport. I appreciate your input. I'm still a little confused because Keith seems to be saying that there were three different crew cab wheelbases.

Re: Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

I'm going to defer to 80Sport on this one.

I'm a little distracted because I'm trying to keep the assembly plant going (...running out of steering wheels...) and because I can't find my chart.

Did you have a specific model year you were asking about? That might help us be a bit more precise.

Re: Crew Cab and Crew Chassis Cab Wheelbase Clarification

Kind of late on this but I have a lead on an '89 crew cab cab and chassis truck (squarebody style) just wondering if a standard box will drop onto the truck? From my understanding the c+c axle is more desirable for running semi wheels on these trucks, now would I need to run a normal dually bed to run semi wheels on the c+c?
