tow hooks

i have a set of 68 tow hooks (3663349-50) i thought they would bolt right up to a 72 but i guessed wrong. has anyone made a 68 hooks work on a 72?
I thought they were all the same but the bend in the hook.... guess not i thought of mounting them on the inside of the frame, but got to "box" that section. Also ive been looking at pictures and noticed that some trucks have the open part of the hook to the front and some to the rear.I think the right way is to the rear..right? or am i missing somthing?

Yes, 68 hooks are mounted with the open end out while 69/72 hooks are open end in, 66 and before had them almost sideways. You cant mount the 60/68 hooks open end in unless you were to take a big notch out of the bumper, unless like you said you were to box the frame and mount them on the inside, that way you dont have the core support/spring hanger mount to contend with.

Re: tow hooks

I did a lot of research on this a while ago, and found so many un restored trucks with hooks facing in and out that there was no rime or reason to it.

The 67/68 hooks I have seen more often open end forward, and have seen them open end rearward.

My '68 K20 are open end forward, and my '70 K10 has the open end forward.
