rocker box question
I have a 1972 k5 and was wondering if it originally had rocker box rear reinforcement plates or is that a new improvement for our vehicles? I just bought new rocker boxes and end caps for it but didnt want to pony up for the reinforcement plates yet. Thanks

Re: rocker box question
Yes the plates are stock and if yours are rotted out you need to buy them.

Re: rocker box question
Ive been looking at the lmc book myself trying to figure it out. Ive helped replace rockers, thats it.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. From outside in, you have... rocker some flat plate? some z bent plate flange thats part of the floor rocker box? |

Re: rocker box question
Oh, ok, i thought you guys were talking about the rocker box, when in fact its the torsion box.
Or am i wrong? The floor has a ninety degree bend on the outside, under the door, and the rocker gets spot welded toit. Then the torsion box gets spot welded to the lower flange of the rocker box, floor flange

Re: rocker box question
If I understand you correctly. You are asking about these, and yes Blazers came with them from the factory and by now they usually are rusted out..
The second picture is of one installed on a Blazer that has the lower quarter cut off |

Re: rocker box question
Thanks everybody, you guys have answered my questions and the pictures are very helpful. Guess I better buy those two but they sure are expensive, I'm assuming because of all the bends/ labor to make them.

Re: rocker box question
Yes they are expensive compared to all the other pieces, your assumption is correct, they have a number of difficult bends and are made by hand, one at a time.

Re: rocker box question
Dale, I dont believe lmc carries those. most guys get them from gmc pauls or brothers. they are a little on the pricey side at around 140 a piece i think.
