New Door Hinges Not Working.

Hello hello,

I have bought 4 brand new door hinges from classic parts for my 55 and installed the doors and this happened. The pin that slides along is going over the top of the plate for the spring. if that makes any sense.

Anyone had this? how did you fix it or any ideas on what i should do ?

I messaged classic parts and they said we will pass the photos on to the parts department but have not got a reply since.

Re: New Door Hinges Not Working.

from what i can see...
you painted them and seized the arm (what your calling the spring plate)
that arm should be free to move, the spring should hold it tight to the pin
and the pin is there to hold your door open

while all of the hinges are the same geometry
the tops should have the spring, arm and pin
the bottoms have none of that

smack the arm with a hammer that should free it up from paint bondage
you may have damaged the pins, but chances are they will be fine

About like painting a double hung window on you house and sticking it so it can't be opened.

the new classic parts hinges are black, so he might not have painted them, but that doesn't mean when they were painted the same thing didn't happen.

i got my hinges from them and had no problems... sorry... good luck.

Re: New Door Hinges Not Working.

This is how they came straight from classic parts already painted.
The spring plate moves freely, i even greased it before putting it in. the pin is just to short to have a good amount of metal to slide against.

Another msg to classic parts and still no answers. It sucks being in australia buying parts. Think im going to have to call them.

And sending them back is not somthing im going to do on my own behalf, it already cost me $100 to get them to Aus

Re: New Door Hinges Not Working.

$100 shipping to AUS is a rip off! Well, unless that includes the price of the hinges. I ship a lot of items to AUS and that seems really steep. See if they have a facebook page, post on there, and call them. Social media gets a lot of attention these days.

Re: New Door Hinges Not Working.

Who do you ship all your stuff with ?

I know I got ripped off but I needed tem ASAP and to buy them here was $490. I told them it was a rip of and that I'm sure they would fit in a USPS box, but he said no the shipping manager says they won't. I even told them that I have shipped a large pack of dynamat very heavy and bulky for $60. They didn't want to listen.

Ok classic parts has finally got back to me and said this
Blake,

I’ve been discussing this issue with my parts manager and my general manager. This is the first time we’ve had anyone report such an issue with the 55-59 hinges. The parts manager sugguested that there may be something off with the door/the truck. The issue is, we could reship a whole set to you to replace these, however if there are other factors causing the hinges to react this way, then anything I send you may end up doing the exact same thing. Were you wanting us to attempt to send you another set, or would you simply looking for a refund on the parts? Just let me know and I will take it up with my managers.

It's not the truck I know that, but atleast they are willing to ship a new set of uppers. And IF THEY COVER the shipping cost it's still going to be a 2-3 week wait while they get shipped back then new ones shipped .

So I think in just going to fix them myself and make a slide bracket 3 times taller . Forever fixed, and will be stronger .

Re: New Door Hinges Not Working.

If you can remove the hinge pins and put in a longer pin would be the way to go, Looks like the hinge, not mounted to the truck, in a frre state the pins shounld almost touch the hinge frame. I think the pins are too short to start with. my .02
