Testing the rear springs on a 1960 GMC!!

I was next door moving a pile of bricks today with my 2 boys (7 and 9) and figured it would take two loads. We got started and a friend stopped by to buy some parts. Well, I didn't tell the boys it would be best to haul them in two loads and they kept right on stacking. When I walked back from the garage, the boys were bragging that they were all done. "Cool daddy, it's a low rider!" Luckily, I just had to haul them to the back of my property. The 'ole girl pulled fine!

lol, thats cool. Yelmer posted up a chevy sales vid a few days ago of a truck hauling logs and it almost had the front wheels off the ground and it was mowin down saplings!

I don't think your springs are working at that point, probably on the bump stops!

thats a really cool truck, I like all the options...think it is interesting that someone installed a 62-6 chevy lower trim on it at some point in its life, but didn't touch anything else on it..

Thanks, Jonz. I bought this truck a year ago from the 2nd owner, who bought it in 1971. I asked him about the trim and he said it was like that when he got the truck. It's got the original stainless upper trim and had dull aluminum lower, which I've already pulled off.

The weight was not too well distributed by being on the tailgate! I had a similar situation recently. My dad brought some compost to me with hs 99 Chevy old body style 1/2 ton 2wd ext cab. He put 4 ft sides on his 16' lo boy trailer and and had it loaded with a front end loader with compost. When fully loaded, most of the weight was on the trailer axles. I started unloading it from the rear, which started putting more and more weight on the truck as i unloaded it. It took me two days to unload it with a shovel, so that night I put two high lift jacks under the bumper of the truck to keep it from sitting all night on the bump stops! It loked too painful to leave it with the bumper almost touching the ground. I asked him to NEVER load a 1/2 ton and 5 lug trailer so much again. Shortly after sold both for $3500 and $1000 and bought and 02 Duramax 2500 HD for $4500 and 12 ft dump trailer with 5k lbs axles for $2500 shortly after. Never overlaoaed either one since. We've hauled sand, firewood, mulch, anyhting you can think of.

Bet those chains are about 1/4" longer

I agree, that's a beautiful truck. I'll bet the steering is nice and easy with that much "ballast" hanging off the back!

Not exactly relevant, but that reminds me of what I saw come in for a scale at my work about a week ago. A guy had his 90's dually F-350 PACKED with huge rocks.. guess how much it weighed? 17,100 lbs! Pretty sure those F@rds were around 8-10,000 lbs!

I'd have had a mini heart attack when I saw that but it's good to know she can handle the load. I would have thought the chains would snap long before then. The don't make 'em like that anymore that's for sure!
