Camper Mirrors
I have seen some camper mirrors that have four screws in the back and the arm attaching to the side. I have seen others with rivets in the back and the arm attaching to the back of the mirror. Which one is the factory style?

if the mirror elbow attaches to the outside of the mirror head it is correct for the below eye line mirrors for 69-72. If the elbow attaches inside the mirror head it is a next generation truck mirror.

When you say "next generation", are you talking about '73 and up?

Yes, next gen is 73 and up. I am not sure when they officially changed over to that style. There could be some overlap of mirrors. But the external elbow with an acorn nut is correct for the 3 sizes of below eye-line mirrors.
There is also 2 styles of mirror heads out there that look like these as well. One style has the brackets on the back of the head centered top to bottom and left to right. Those are GM correct as I know it. The other mirror head is centered left to right but maybe an inch off center top to bottom. I have seen them as replacement mirrors and I have seen them on Ford trucks from back then as well.

I have always assumed the first year or two (69 and possibly 70 unless mine was a freak) were that way and the later model years through 72 were centered. Also, the Dodge trucks and Ramchargers from the early 70s as well as the GM vans through about 79 used the exact same mirror heads with the bracket centered if the below eyeline style mirrors were ordered. The reproductions of these mirror heads aren't close to correct. |
