Using 73-later Buckets w/71/72 Covers?

I`ve heard the later frames are the same and the earlier covers can be made to work.Has anyone done this or have any facts to offer on this?

Re: Using 73-later Buckets w/71/72 Covers?

first pic is 72 lower skirt .notice it is flat across front and sides. second pic is 73 skirt it is flat across front and about 4" down each side then it tapers down about 1 1/2 " to the rear.3rd pic is cardboard template to show what needs to be added to make 73 same as 72.this and the upper foam is the only differance in 69/72 style and 73 up.4th pic is 73 upper foam 5th pics shows card board where a piece of foam about 1 1/2" thick needs to be added to fill out 72 covers.you will need correct 69/72 mounts for seats to sit at correct height.73 up blazer mounts can be sectioned appoximately 1 1/2" and will then set right and bolt in the same factory bucket location.next time I convert a set I will take pics of entire job even installing the covers.hope this helps.

Re: Using 73-later Buckets w/71/72 Covers?

Here is what I did to get my tracks to fit hole patterns in floor wich were 15and 1/4 inches from front to back on dr side. The first picture was the brackets I bought from swap meet looked close but didnt match hole patterns in floor pan.
The bases was swapped out for a pickup truck seat track and the intermediate bracket (seat track to seat) drilled of and changed to fit the under side of bucket. I was unable to find anything that matched the hole pattern in the floor pan until I ran across a pair of pickup truck gliders wich matched perfect to the floor but not the bottom of the seat. The painted bracket is 15 1/4 inches long the other is only 13 3/8 long approx.

Does anyone else find the same issues ???

I purchaced new seat covers and they fit ok but will need some extra stuffing in them as sudgested .I will post pics if anyone finds them useful

The passenger side seat bracket is what Im trying to fit now but It seams short aswell and the bracket doesnt meat the floor clip. I dont have the answers for it yet. Hopefully someone can be Identify the bracket.

Re: Using 73-later Buckets w/71/72 Covers?

pic #1 is true 72 bucket seat mount with 73 blazer mount behind. Pic #2 and #3 is 72 with 73 behind to show the differance in height.pic # 4 shows what needs to be removed to make 73 blazer mounts correct height to install in 72. area in blue masking tape is to be cut out and weld back together.will bolt up to floor in factory 72 bucket seat holes. holes in floor of factory bench seat trucks are not the same as bucket seats and if adding buckets to a truck that came with bench seat you must drill new holes in the floor pan for correct postioning.pic # 5 is factory bench seat mount.I will in near future take photos of complete conversion and also picks of correct position with measurements for holes in floor pan.It is not absolutely necessary but the is also little brackets under the floor pan that should be added. As long as you use a large flat washer with the nut under the floor pan it will be ok.

Re: Using 73-later Buckets w/71/72 Covers?

OK do all those seat tracks measure have a 15 inch span between the forward and aft mounting holes cause thats the distance the holes in my truck are spaced apart and ive never been able to find blazer seat tracks that fit into those holes .Most blazer tracks seem to be 13 1/4 inches from front to rear set of holes . All the holes in my truck have the backing plates installed yet so thats why I doesnt compute for me quite yet ............... Later Rob

Re: Using 73-later Buckets w/71/72 Covers?

Bucket seats mounts are shorter in length.pickups that come from the factory have 2 separate sets of holes in the floor.the holes for bench seats will be plugged from the factory with pilliphs head screws.I have had 4 trucks that have the bucket seats on the spid and they all came this way. That is why I said I would take pics with measurements to show where to drill correct holes if mounting factory buckets and mounts in a bench seat truck.the bolt holes on bucket seat mount are 12 3/4'' from center to center .One thing I have never checked is utility buckets.I have never owned a set but from the pics I have seen they look to have the longer bench seat mount.I think sublvr has a set for sale we might could get him to measure.I am positive cst buckets for blazers and pickups have the same driver side mount.I have several sets that come from pickups and several from blazers.73 up drivers side mounts have the same spacing they are just taller.
