Re: WTB... Aftermarket trans cross member for 67-72
This is the one I have, I think I bought it from ECE but I can't remember for sure, it's been awhile. I've never installed it but I think it has a few paint chips from moving around the garage. It supports the tranny and stiffens the frame like the factory one and unlike the tubular aftermarket ones. I could do $90 shipped on it so you are basically getting the $20-25 shipping for free

Re: WTB... Aftermarket trans cross member for 67-72
That crossmember pictured above was originally built by PerformanceOnline. They claim those are theirs and sold by other venders.
What engine/tranny do you have? I ask because that crossmember will NOT work with a big block in front of a 4L80 trans unless you move the motor mounts back towards the firewall by approx 2", or install the crossmember backwards and drill your frame! They claim it will work, but look at this pic! Note: Motor mounts we used are stock clamshell (Canadian?) in the stock location. No beating back the firewall and good room behind the valve covers. The pic also has some weird colors and thats because I removed some writing I had on it. I never did find a good aftermarket member so I used the stock one and moved the 2 mount holes 1 inch rearward, and the holes in the tranny rubber mount back 1 half inch. |

Re: WTB... Aftermarket trans cross member for 67-72
My engine/tranny combo is Ls1/4l60 but i may upgrade to a 4l80 at a later date. the mounts im using will move the engine back 1" form stock location. My main reason for wanting a new crossmember is so i can tuck 3" exhaust up closer to the body since my truck will be very low.

Re: WTB... Aftermarket trans cross member for 67-72
You may want to set a price range, since you didn't respond to the one I posted I'm assuming it was out of your price range? This crossmember, as with all the other aftermarket ones available that I'm aware of, are designed for a 350 or 400 trans so you'll have to drill the frame for the crossmember or fab your own crossmember. The pictures ImNoSpaz posted show his trans crossmember backwards, not sure why. I installed a 700r4 and had to drill, which is the same as the 4L60.

GMCPauls.com offers one for $70. Same design as the ones posted above, and will work with the trans your are going to use.

Re: WTB... Aftermarket trans cross member for 67-72
Its defiantly out of my price range when new cross members are $65-$70 shipped! I didnt respond because i didnt want to be rude. Every piece on my truck has had some type of fab work so thats not a problem. I just need a starting point.
Thanks alot Gmcjoe! Ill check it out now |

No problem. I done a lot of research to find an aftermarket one at a decent price. I am actually going to buy several parts from them. Gotta support the vendors on here.

Yeah $69 shipped is the everyday price for a cpp tubular cross member with free poly mount and hardware on ebay from cpp. Just a heads up for anyone looking

Re: WTB... Aftermarket trans cross member for 67-72
There should be no reason to drill the frame with the one from GMCPauls from what I understood from a thread that was on here a while back. The guy showed the different mounting points that was from what he said factory drilled. I haven't done it myself yet, so I am not sure. IMO, I don't care about having to drill or not. My truck is a resto mod anyway.
Thanks for the heads up on the CPP one, I will have to check it out.

Many people running the CPP version with no issues that I have seen.....I am running the same one and its a pretty stout unit.
