Suburban rear bumper

I've read every post I could find about burb rear bumpers. It seemed that my best option was use a front bumper on the rear and adjust for the bolt holes. This will give me a original looking rear bumper. My burb has a non original frame, so I expected to adjust the bumper mounts.

I purchased a repro front bumper and installed it on the front and moved my original front bumper to the rear. I'm having problems with the fit. The rear of the truck is straighter than the bumper. The bumper has more curve. The bumper is also too narrow on the ends. It touches the body before it is as forward as it should be.

I could probably cut (grid) the top of each end of the bumper, see the marker line in the picture. But, of course then I'll lose my chrome plating.

The wooden spacers are 1/4" thick in the pic for reference. I feel that I need a minimum of 1/2" of space.

Re: Suburban rear bumper

I just checked the clearance on my 60 Sub rear bumper and is about 3/8 of an inch each side [end]. Yes,I used a front bumper too...I had to make new mount brackets but am well satisfied. Just don't back into anything or get hit...

Re: Suburban rear bumper

Ron, I'd be interested in the bumper and Lyle's info if the OP doesn't want it.

Re: Suburban rear bumper

I bought a rear bumper from a guy in California that is shipping it to me. As long as I don't get scammed, then I install the used rear bumper. I'll try to take a few pics to compare the fit.
