Re: mirror screws 64-66

I have the ones from Classic Parts. They look great, but the did start to rust a bit rather quickly.

Re: mirror screws 64-66

I'm pretty sure I have three of those that Tony Smith sent me and I ended up not using. I also have 3 or the 1960 style with the bigger heads. I'll dig them up tomorrow and if they're the correct kind I'll mail them to you.

What did you end up using?

Do you know what size and thread they are?

These are the mirror screws I have. The one on the left came with an original mirror arm I grabbed at a junkyard back around 1992. The other 3 came from Tony. The last 3 in the second photo are the original 1960 screws that were in the door of my truck since new.

If you’re interested in any or all shoot me a PM and I’ll get them in the mail.

I ended up using stainless oval head screws. Since nothing on my truck is stock I liked them better because they filled up the entire cavity on the mirror mount, much like the original wide head 1960 screws did.

The thread size is the same on all these screws - 5/16x-18. The length of the thread alone is 3/4" on the later screws, and 5/8" on the 1960 screws. I don't remember the length on the stainless screws but they were probably 3/4". I got tired of the shiny surface so I chucked them in the drill and sanded the heads, after which they were painted black to match the mirrors.

Do you remember where you found them?
I went to homedepot yesterday and couldn't find that size in SS.

Re: mirror screws 64-66

I might have found them at Lowes in their specialty fastener section, or it may have been a local hardware store chain called Big R here in Spokane. They also carry a somewhat limited variety of stainless and chrome fasteners. Either way they did come from a local hardware store and are the style in the drawings below:

Re: mirror screws 64-66

We have these in stock, 5/16-18 x 1" (the thread is 3/4" long) SS oval head phillips drive got about 200 of them and can get more...... about .57 cents each........Kieth

I do not own them we have them where I work at a fastener distributor, minimum order is $ 3.00 Kieth

If someone would buy more the price goes down.....
