clifford performance
anyone have the clifford 6=8 kit for their 235, im thinking about getting it, it comes with a new manifold with a webber carb and dual headers, they claim it gives a "60%" power increase.

Re: clifford performance
It will be retro neat because it's a 235 with a slick manifold and carb. It will sound neat because it's a split 6 but there's no way it will increase the power anywhere near 60% without a lot of other mods that center around camshaft and compression. And you don't want to get too crazy with the power/RPM's because, if I remember correctly, it only has 4 mains instead of 7 like the newer 6's.

Re: clifford performance
The cylinder to main ratio on the 235 is 6:4. On a V8 it is 8:5. The 235 has more mains per cylinder than a V8 does.

Re: clifford performance
That may be true but when you consider the v-8 rods share an approx 2" wide rod journal and the 235 has two individual journals in different locations, the space between the main journals is way more. (flex) Plus, unless it's a late 235, it used a splash system with dippers to oil the rod journals. While that is simple and durable, it is more in tune with Briggs/Stratton than high RPM's. And for HP, the shared port cylinder head is a whole 'nother story.
