Unhappy Reproduction Fenders

Has anyone used any of the many reproduction fenders? Please tell me you thoughts about them. I am not sure if I want to use the reproduction fenders or continue searching for a good original pair. Thanks

I have no personal experience but I saw a 71 with a repop front cap and it looked pretty good. The owner said he didn't have much trouble with the pieces.

From what I understand if you use repop parts use the complete clip. When you start mixing repop and GM parts you will have some problems. Usually you can get pretty close but I've also heard of people having to cut off mounting tabs to get the repop parts right. I've heard Goodmark parts are pretty good quality. I have Goodmark fenders on my 67.

Ratrod67,

If I did buy reproduction fenders I am going to guy Goodmark. But I have the origanil GM 67/68 grill, radiator support and one inner fender well. Do you think this will fit together?

Goodmark fenders are nice, however they do not have the new zink coated fenders that we offer. These are made from new tooling, so the fit is better and you don't see the wrinkling that is preasent on some of the older fenders. We have used them with origanal GM parts and haven't had a problem. I wouldn't go back to the Goodmark fenders because of this. They just plain fit better and look better. Are the fenders you offer the same gauge steel as originals?

Thanks

I have all GM parts except the fenders. I'm pretty happy with the fit. The hardest thing for me was adjusting the spot in the upper fender where the bowed section lines up with the door. My door to fender gaps are about perfect but the bow is a little off. I'm sure if I spent more time it will line up better but it's good enough for primer.

I'd be willing to try the new zinc fenders, but the Goodmark repops that I put on mine don't fit well at all. The bowed part that ratrod67 mentioned looks bad, and my grill has a huge gap on both sides. The zinc ones were just coming on the market when I bought these - so much for a good deal!

Our fenders are made from 1.2ml steel. The original GM fenders are 1ml. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

If you are having problems with the goodmark items, contact them.

I have a radiator core support that had a problem. Contacted them, they looked into it and found a production problem.

They shipped me a new one at no cost, not even a shipping charge.

They like to know of problems, bad for business.

Blue Beard - thanks for the info. I'll contact them and see what they say. I purchased the fenders from a vendor local to me, but I haven't even contacted them to see if they will do anything.

Mikej71,

I purchased mine locally as well.

I talked with them, and they were the ones that suggest contacting Goodmark.

Keep us posted on how things go.
