Frame swap questions

I am working on my 71 c20, the front clip is off, the box is off, and the cab is stripped. I have to pull the motor to put new gaskets in. I have a 72 c10 parts truck that I was going to take the front cradle, and rear end out of, and swap the 5 lug stuff on to the c20. At this point would it just be easier to take the cab off the c20, and put it on the c10 frame? And if I do that, what body bushings do I buy, 3/4 or 1/2 ton. Thanks in advance for your help. I wish I could figure out how to post some pics! This truck has come along way thanks to all the great info here.

If it helps at all I just finished up my 68 C10, it started out as a 68 C20 and ended up on a 72 C10 short frame so I could have the 5 lug setup and the disc brakes as well. I bought 72 1/2 ton 2wd body mounts and it mounted up perfect. Yours should take the same I think that would be easier than changing out the suspension, but thats just me.

Some (maybe all) of the 3/4 ton frame had the rear cab mount 1/2" or 3/4" lower. Look on LMC website & you can see they offer two different cab mount kits.

So the cab should mount up to the 1/2 ton frame without a problem then, as long as I use the 1/2 ton cab mounts. Thanks!

Buy the mounts that match what the frame is from. 1/2 ton frame = 1/2 ton cab mounts.

Speaking from experience, it would be a lot easir to swap out your suspension than swapping out the cab. Take a look at my build thread and you will see...

If I was leaving it a LWB, I definitely would have just swapped the suspension.

I still sometimes wish I had when I look at all the mess I have created.

I have a 67 c10 1/2 ton. I bought a 72 1/2 ton parts truck for the frame and supension. Both are short bed frames. I'm just going to fix up the 72 frame as I drive my 67. Then swap the 67 body on it when it's all ready. As far as I know. It should be a easy swap and everything bolt right up. Anyone have any advice or have done this before?

do your self a favor and have it all sandblasted. if its going to be all stock, ie no custom fabrication or welding, have the chassis and parts powder coated.

then when you swap the cab your chasiss is "restored" itll add value if you ever want to sell it, and itll increase the awesomness of your project ten fold..

if switching frames one should know how strict thier state is on matched VIN numbers
