1965 C10 4X4 military truck info?

I picked up a 1965 C10 4X4 Stepside a few weeks ago and have tried to pull up info on the VIN or tried to find out anything about the truck but have been unsuccessful. It is a navy truck and has a FSN#2c2320-580-2817. It has a glove box plaque with all the info and looking for any help trying to find out the history of this truck.
I'm trying to figure out if I should restore it to original military issue or go in the direction I would normally go.
Any help would greatly appreciated.

I was unaware the K series was prior to the 70's. Is it because it is a 4x4 is why it is a K rather than a C?

Another Navy truck! Nice!
I've got a 65 Navy panel truck sitting in my project queue.

Yep - jkirn's right. Many aren't aware of this - K will appear in the VIN if it's an original 4x4. In the 70's, the "K5" Blazer actually got a K badge also so that's why many folks assume K didn't exist til the 70's. But the K has always been part of the VIN post-NAPCO days.

Re: 1965 C10 4X4 military truck info?

I'm not familiar with Navy trucks, but I'm guessing there's nothing different than the civilian model since it has civilian (bowtie) badges on it.
This is my 65 K-10 that was a former Forestry Service truck. It used to have a US plate on it also, but it's civilian specs in every way.

When I was in the Army even civilian type vehicles got what the Army called nomenclature plates, and I suspect that's what you're seeing there.
Either way, good looking truck you've got there to start with.
Good luck and be sure to start a build thread on it.

Re: 1965 C10 4X4 military truck info?

If you''re trying to nail down what you have, the FSN (Federal Stock Number) is like a bar code. The serial number is unique to the truck, more like the VIN. There may be a way to trace the serial number but the truck has been out of the system so long you probably won't be able to find anything. You may still be able to trace the FSN and it may tell you how the truck was configured since they bought alot of the same trucks.
